Curated by Sian Morson
SYNOPSIS
I’m Tired of Being Hypersurveilled is a concept album + multimedia experience dealing with artist Heno.’s experience as a Black man in America under constant surveillance by the state, corporations, and those around him. In this film, Heno. is held hostage in the S.Y.S.T.E.M. (Securing Your Safety Through Extreme Means), a bureaucratic government organization bent on retaining control of the American population. He is subject to a series of simulations pushing him to accept surveillance as the status quo. Each time he refuses he is placed in a new simulation. We identify with Heno., rooting for his escape, only to realize there is none.
This visual narrative fuses music, film, animations, videos, multimedia art, & interaction, appealing not only to music fans, but also art enthusiasts & gamers; creating a world with an innovative, multi-faceted experience unraveling the depths of surveillance we experience online & IRL today.
